2019 Conference Theme
"Always be prepared to make a defence to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you..."
1 Peter 3:15
Ephphatha means to "be open"; to be open to the Spirit. What or who is this Spirit? It is the Spirit of truth that sets us free from the slavery of sin, as Our Lord tells us (John 8:32). It is this truth that brings hope, a hope that must shine so brightly that anyone who encounters us knows that we are disciples of Christ. It is a hope that is rooted in Revelation and safeguarded by the Magisterium of the Church. Do we know why we believe what we believe?
This year, you are invited to an amazing few days of prayer and discovery that will inspire you to a deeper relationship with Christ and to be a beacon of hope to those around you and to the world.

Tim Staples was a fallen-away Southern Baptist who as a teen came back to faith in Christ through the witness of televangelists. During his four-year tour with the US Marine Corps, he became friends with a Marine well-versed in his Catholic Faith who challenged Tim to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. That sparked a two-year search for the truth. Immediately after his tour of duty, Tim attended Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community. He was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he studied his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church.
He converted in 1988 and spent six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy and studying theology at the graduate level. Realizing that his calling was not to be a priest, Tim left the seminary in 1994 and has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since.
Karlo Broussard, a native of Southern Louisiana, left a promising career in Cajun music to devote himself full-time to the work of Catholic apologetics. As a staff apologist for Catholic Answers, he travels the country giving talks on the Bible, theology, and philosophy. Karlo is a dynamic speaker, and the clarity and precision of his presentations reflect his training in philosophy. The takeaway for his audiences is a deeper understand and appreciation of the Faith. And whether his audience is a First Communion class, a youth group, a college or young adult group, or a parish gathering, Karlo engages people of all ages and levels of sophistication. Let this Cajun apologist set the hearts of Catholics in your area on fire with a renewed understanding of their Faith and a joyful desire to share it with others.
